Episode 08 - Justos por Pecadores ("The righteous pay for the sinners")

Today's topic? Probably gambling. It starts in a casino.

Meet Beatriz.
She loses everything and asks for credit. The casino's old man/manager/owner says she's way off her limit already. She says they can have her jewellery and car, he suggests her house. She accepts.
Someone wants to be homeless.

Then we cut to a deeply shocking scene for me, a post-coital Isabel (and Santiago). Yep, they had sex. I don't understand. Isabel should be some woman's hairy-chested lady. Does this count as the gay storyline?

Isabel says she likes to be with Santiago from time to time, but not always.

Santiago: Which means you don't want me, or want me for nothing more than this (sex).
Isabel: Just like you. Love is a simple contract, everyone gets their own slice.
Santiago: Not romantic ...
Isabel: But that's how it is. Get back together with Teresa, become president and make love to me everytime i ask you to.
Santiago: Is that a contract?
Isabel: It's an order.
Santiago: Always at your orders.

*sigh*

(Here's the proof I needed. When you really want to kiss someone you don't go nose-to-nose, you tilt your head because you know noses get in the way. Isabel didn't want to kiss Santiago and she's probably using him to get closer to Teresa, mwahahah)

Ok let's carry on.

Beatriz goes home, and in her room grabs a gun and is about to kill herself when her maid interrupts her with breakfast. The girl doesn't speak spanish and Beatriz asks her, rudely, to leave.

She decides not to kill herself and just goes to bed. Wise decision.

Isabel and Santiago are now crossing the hotel lobby or some sort of public space and kiss in public. They're being watched by some paparazzi and it doesn't take a genius to know what's going to happen.

At Jose's office we know the story of another inmate, Maria. She was abused as a child. An uncle sold her to a brothel. She bit his ear off. I don't know if that's why she's in Capadocia, but i doubt it. We see some flashbacks of her as a child.

Maria: I never closed my eyes. Not with the first. Not with the second. Not with the third.

This show is very yellow-blue-green. And it looks great.

The doors open at Capadocia and in comes Zaide, la puta mas famosa de Mexico.

Jose tries to appologize again to Teresa for the things he said but she's still pissed.

Jose: Why can't we separate what happened between us from work?
Teresa: If I could separate my personal life from work i woudn't have gastritis, insomnias and migraines.

I just like her answer.

La Negra is back at Capadocia. Bambi's request.
To help on the drug dealing business.
Isabel isn't happy about it, but her opinion isn't important now, is it?

Back at the compulsive gambler's house, she finds out accidentally while going through some stuff that her husband is gay and is having an affair with a man (makes sense huh, gay .. man) anyway, she storms out, probably to the casino.

At Capadocia the girls are playing basketball, Bambi's team loses and so she throw the ball at the other girls face, huh oh nose bleed. She decides to celebrate it. That's how Bambi rolls. And that's la Colombiana she's hugging.

La Negra arrives and the fantastic-two are back together.
Bambi tells her how everything is planned and welcomes her to "cacadocia". Caca meaning shit.

A guy visits Teresa and brings her a magazine. We were expecting this. There are photos of Santiago and Isabel, but also Teresa and other ex's. She's not pleased.

Zaide is taken to her cell and soon starts bribing everyone for protection. She's in a cell with Psycho, remember Maria? I wouldn't like to share a cell with someone nicknamed Psycho.

Andrea-the-problem-child plans to lose her virginity with Daniel.

At Capadocia the girls are all watching tv when Zaide's news shows up. She defends herself and says it isn't true, the girls were working for her because they wanted to. Let's not forget that most girl in capadocia were abused, some at a very young age. Maria (psycho) gets up and turns the tv off. Zaide did to these girls what her family did to her as a child. She doesn't like her.

Zaide insists to talk to Teresa. She's willing to pay whatever it takes to have a cell for her own.

Zaide:
This is a private prison, therefore a business like any other.

She fears for her life.

Teresa: Here we don't sell privileges.
Zaide: Here money buys everything.

I admit i started watching this show because of its lesbian/girl-on-girl/prison thematic, but I'm really into it now. Every side of it, politics, corruption, economy, society. All together is really interesting.

Bambi is now working with Lorena on the drugs (but kissing la Colombiana).

Santiago insists with Teresa for a second chance ... Teresa shows him the magazine.

Teresa: I have this woman working with me everyday. I have to see her everyday because you imposed her on me and didn't give a shit for how i felt.
Santiago: Let me explain Teresa ...
Teresa: You have nothing to explain to me, think about what you'll say to your daughters when they see this (...) you, the one who cares so much about family.
Santiago: If you calm down maybe we can talk ... this woman ...
Teresa: This woman is Isabel Clave and has been your lover ever since we were still together. Don't you dare deny it because i swear ...
Santiago: Alright, alright ... (blah blah i admit) you're the only important woman in my life.
Teresa: Enough. Think about what you're going to say to your daugthers. I hope you have the balls to tell the truth (...).

At Capadocia Zaide is taken to her cell, Maria starts humming something and a girl says "that's a bad sign". The only problem with this show is that they aren't very subtle. You almost always know what's going to happen next.

Magos insists with Lorena to know what she's doing with Bambi. She advises Lorena that Bambi is dangerous, Lorena tells her to "not tell her what to do". She has some drugs with her and is now taking them.

At the casino, Beatriz is playing again and about to lose her house. She reminds me of Ally Sheedy sometimes.
I think she lost the house on purpose, to get back at her husband for lying to her all this time.

At Capadocia la Colombiana is acting more friendly towards Lorena, Bambi isn't happy and kind of scolds la colombiana. Zaide realizes Bambi is the tough one around and asks for her protection. She pays obviously.

Isabel goes to Teresa and recomends a private cell for Zaide.
Teresa questions her values "did she offer you money too?" Isabel is sort of offended and says she wouldn't accept any of that. She thinks Zaide is in danger because the other inmates may want to get revenge for what she did to them and their daughters.
Teresa tells Isabel to do her job then, keep an eye on them and let nothing happen.
[she's acting very cold and cynical with Isabel (who wouldn't) and doesn't even look at her when talking]

Isabel: What if that is not enough?
Teresa: What do you want Isabel, that Capadocia becomes a prison like all the others? Where the rich can pay for privileges? You keep saying your security system is the most effective of all prisons. Show it.

Isabel: Do you have a problem with me Teresa?
Teresa: Should I ?

*silence*

Isabel: See you later.

Carla, the fake hostage, talks to her husband and admits she faked everything because he was always working and didn't pay attention to her (!!!). She begs him to withdraw the charges.

Zaide makes a move on Jose, at his office. Takes her clothes off and etc. But he stops her.
We then see a flashback of Jose and a girlfriend (a patient he got involved with) who killed herself in front of him.

Teresa calls Lorena to talk, Bambi warns her not to tell anything.
Teresa wants to talk about the appeal on her case, Lorena says she doesn't want any false hopes, Teresa says she has everything on her side, Lorena tells her not to trust her so much she's not worth it.
Isabel is watching, as always, so she takes this moment to sneak into Teresa's office and finds the magazine.
Teresa walks in.

Isabel: Is this why you're acting like that?
Teresa: Can you tell me what are you doing here?
Isabel: Teresa, I don't have a relationship with your husband (ex Isabel, ex)
Teresa: I hate lies Isabel, that's why I'm a lawyer. I believe in justice, the truth.
Isabel: No one is faithful anymore.
Teresa: Thank you for your statement.

Andrea-the-problem-child goes to Daniel's house with the sole intention of losing her virginity, but things don't go as planned.

Psycho watches Zaide from afar and approaches her slowly, she's scared and looking for Bambi. She passes her by and we think "phew, you'll live another day" and then BAM, she grabs her from behind and bites her ear off! Mike Tyson would be proud. And then she spits it to a girls face.

What happens next? Isabel walks into Teresa's office again, all full of reason.

Isabel: I asked you to separate Zaide from the others. She almost lost her ear over this attack.
Teresa: That was your responsability and you should have kept her under watch all the time.
Isabel: No no no no no (i think it was 5 times no) Let's not mix things up. You didn't give me the conditions to do my job because you think by contradicting me you can get your revenge. If you want me to go, just say so. But things can't carry on like this.

Beatriz's husband arrives from his weekend only to find out his beautiful maison is no longer his.
He's furious and goes to his room to find his wife sleeping.
They throw some truths at eachother, she grabs a gun to shoot him, mentions the gay affair, etc etc they go downstairs and she ends up dead. He shoots her.

But he's not taking the blame for it! Nah nah nah.

Guess who is?

He puts the gun in her hand, shoots another time and runs off.

The police arrive, she's taken away, doesn't speak a word of spanish ...

... and a baby is left behind.

Santiago talks to his daughters about the photos, Teresa arrives, they talk. Teresa says she can't take it anymore and will leave Capadocia and Santiago (for good).

And that's the end of episode 8 ... whose title i can't translate.

NEW: The title of this episode derives from the Spanish 'dicho,' "Pagan los justos por pecadores." Literally, "The righteous pay for the sinners." by Nightguy
